Retta Gardner

President and CEO

Retta Gardner is the president and CEO of Murfreesboro-headquartered Guaranty Trust Company, a billion-dollar mortgage lender that ranks among the top 100 mortgage companies in America. If you ask her to describe what she does, Retta will tell you she helps families achieve the American dream of homeownership.

Retta is only the second CEO to lead Guaranty Trust. She joined the company in 1996, shortly after graduating from Western Kentucky University with a degree in human resource management. Through the years she held a variety of positions, utilizing her skills in management, marketing, sales, information technology, and human resources. She was executive vice president before being named CEO in August 2013.

As Guaranty Trust’s senior executive, she oversees 160 employees who facilitate home loan transactions in 30-plus states by marketing mortgages through its wholesale and internet divisions.

She earned a master’s degree in business administration from Middle Tennessee State University in 2000. She became a member of the university’s adjunct faculty in 2005 and, for five years, taught courses in the Management and Marketing Department. She continues a close relationship with MTSU as a member of the business college’s Advisory Council.

Retta is the recipient of the Jennings A. Jones College of Business Exemplar Award. The honor recognizes her personal commitment to community service as well as her dedication to promoting a culture of social responsibility in the workplace. Retta currently serves as a Board Member for Volunteer State Bank and on the Board for United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Board and Rutherford County Read to Succeed Board.

Wendell Mandrell is the founder and former President/CEO of Guaranty Trust Company. Wendell founded Guaranty Trust in 1986 with a vision to improve the mortgage process for the consumer….to do things with a sense of urgency and compassion. In the past 30 years, Wendell has lead the organization from its small start-up of less than 5 employees working in just Rutherford County to where it is today with 160 employees serving consumers in more than 30 states! Wendell is a graduate of the LSU School of banking and an advocate and volunteer for many charities including United Way and First Methodist Church.

Rex Hagood

Senior Vice President

Rex Hagood is a Senior Vice President working with Clients, Account Executives, and Loan Originators and brings more than 30 years of mortgage experience to GTC. Rex is a licensed originator in Arkansas through NMLS passing the national and UST multi state test through NMLS. He is a member of NAMB and has served as a board member for the Northwest Florida chapter of the FAMB as well as the AMPA. Throughout his career Rex has completed many courses, classes and seminars pertaining to sales and mortgage lending including Integrity Selling, The X-Factor in Selling, Underwriting the Self Employed, Mortgage Fraud prevention, School of Mortgage Banking II and others.

Rex opened the Atlanta Region for Statewide and within two years had the number one region in the company. More recently, in 2016 while serving as SVP/Production Manager he helped Guaranty Trust to achieve its highest production in company history. Throughout his career he has won numerous awards and received recognition for sales and production as a manager, originator and Account Executive. Rex attended Auburn University and is an avid sports fan.

Nancy Skinner

Chief Operations Officer

Nancy Skinner is a Sr. Vice President and the Chief Operations Officer of Guaranty Trust Company.  She works with the operations staff by assisting in problem solving, updating guidelines, answering questions and helping to make your loan approvals and closings as smooth as possible.  Nancy has been in the mortgage industry since 1985 when she began her career as a secretary in the mortgage department of a local bank.  She has been with Guaranty Trust for 17 years and has worked in all areas of operations in mortgage lending including set up, processing, shipping, insuring, quality control, closing and underwriting. Nancy knows how important homeownership is and believes all borrowers deserve the opportunity to own their own home.

Terra Mincey

Chief Financial Officer

For the past 20 years, Terra Mincey has served as the CFO for Guaranty Trust Company.  Terra understands the value of homeownership in improving our communities.  Turning borrowers into homeowners is more than just a loan, it is a step toward helping a family secure the largest single source of wealth for most Americans. Terra holds a degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and is an active supporter of the United Way.

Jeff Devereaux

Jeff Devereaux

Vice President of Business Development

Jeff Devereaux serves as the Vice President of Business Development working with the Retail and Wholesale/Correspondent Division. He has worked for successful regional and community banks in both production and division management capacities. Jeff holds an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University and BS from the University of Tennessee and is currently the President of Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association. Jeff has also served as President of Nashville Mortgage Bankers Association.

Director of Marketing

Heather Kent is the Director of Marketing where she helps consumers network and engage with Guaranty Trust through multimedia channels and is responsible for brand management.  A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Heather brings more than 15 years of advertising and marketing experience to her position. For outstanding sales, Gannett named her one of its Top 10 advertising executives. After spending more than a decade working in sales and marketing for Gannett she brings her marketing knowledge to help GTC connect with consumers.

Senior VP Closing Loan and Delivery Manager

Vicky West is the Senior VP Closing Loan and Delivery Manager spending the majority of her career in the mortgage industry.  For more than two decades, Vicky has thrived on the opportunities and challenges of the mortgage industry.  She enjoys working with her team to provide an environment that closes loans on time for a great closing experience.

Cindy Merryman

Vice President and Underwriting Manager

Cindy Merryman, Vice President and Underwriting Manager has enjoyed working in the mortgage industry for 40 years in various roles including processing, closing, origination, and assistant manager.  Her entire working career has been related to the mortgage industry.  She enjoys numerous designations including HUD DE and VA SAR.  Cindy relates that home ownership provides families and individuals with stability and happiness.

Loan Account Department Manager

Tina Bracewell is the Loan Account Manager Department Manager who supervises a team of loan account managers and Pre-Closers to manage files from the completion of the Set-up process until the file reaches closing.  Tina believes that a consistent review and thorough understandings of the mortgage industry’s ever-changing guidelines is paramount to a streamlined mortgage process.  She has been serving in her current role for 5 years and has more than 25 years of experience in the finance and mortgage industry. Tina credits open communication and respectful, one-on-one relationships with our clients is the foundation of successful business for all involved.

Mary Craig is the Guaranty Trust Setup Manager working with a team of retail and wholesale setup professionals to ensure the first stage of the mortgage loan process runs smoothly and in a timely manner for the client.  She believes that a well-trained setup team provides more flexibility within the department.  Mary enjoys working collaboratively with her team and enjoys seeing her team members advance within the company.

Human Resources Director

Julia is Human Resources Director at Guaranty Trust.  In this role, Julia is responsible for supporting the culture, business operations and strategic initiatives by engaging all employees and providing a flexible, consultative approach to empower leaders and employees.  Julia is passionate about her role and the human resources profession having developed broad experience over her career.  Her background includes human resources roles in the healthcare and financial services industries, including Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority, Regions Bank, and CIGNA HealthCare.  Julia graduated from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communication, and a Master of Business Administration in Leadership. She holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and a Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification.  When not at work, Julia enjoys spending time with family and is an enthusiastic sports fan.

Director of Information Technology

Ryan McCormick is the Director of Information Technology for Guaranty Trust.  Ryan and his team take pride in providing valuable technical guidance and support to the company’s clients, employees and business partners.  Ryan joined Guaranty Trust in 2005 as a mortgage loan officer and moved into IT in 2009 merging his passion for people and technology.  Ryan studied Finance at Middle Tennessee State University and currently serves on the steering committee for the United Way’s Young Leaders Society.  Ryan believes that Guaranty Trust changes lives, one home loan at a time.
